Hankering for some authentic Italian food this month? Then look no further than the Sheraton Corniche’s La Mamma restaurant, which is running a special Umbrian menu until the end of November.
Priced at just Dh185 for three courses, diners can choose from the wintry, rich and earthy cappuccino of porcini mushrooms with roasted chestnuts and oregano-infused extra-virgin olive oil, pappardelle pasta with slow-cooked hare or strozzapetti pasta with black truffle and anchovies to start.
Main courses are a choice between pan-seared perch fillet with lemon and caper sauce, pumpkin and parmesan flan and asparagus, or veal escalopes with mushrooms handpicked from the Umbrian hills, truffle oil, polenta and fava beans.
For dessert, indulge in a decadent classic chocolate fondant and poached pear, or try the coffee pannacotta with roasted walnuts.
I tried the menu last night and the clean plates on the table indicated that this was a triumph of a meal – made even more of an experience with the Italian F&B manager Max Venturelli on hand to explain the menu and tell us anecdotes about Italy.

The restaurant is this month promoting Monte Vibiano hand-pressed extra-virgin olive oils from Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio (dubbed liquid gold) which features in the dishes and diners who partake of the special Umbrian menu can leave their business cards and will be entered into a raffle draw, the top prize being a trip for two to Rome with Turkish Airlines to visit the olive groves of Monte Vibiano including an overnight stay. All in all, a tasty deal, enjoy a delicious, reasonably priced three-course Italian meal and at the end of the month, you may be on your way to Italy!
