The Carton, an independent quarterly publication that tells the story of Middle Eastern culture through its food is focusing on booza (ice cream in Arabic) for its sixth issue.
On Monday night, to celebrate The Carton’s love for ice cream and to mark the summer issue, food and culture lovers are invited to thejamjar in Dubai.
Visitors can enjoy complementary Arabic booza and viewcopies of the current and back issues of the magazine. The Carton will also be screening a 60-minute documentary titled ‘An Ice Cream Show’ by Rick Sebak (2004), which takes a look at the industry and science of ice cream.
This PBS documentary takes viewers on a delicious trip across the United States to learn about ice cream. Places visited include Bassett’s in Philadelphia and Matsumoto’s in Hawaii. Also included is a history of Howard Johnson’s. Viewers see the studies of the science of ice cream conducted at Penn State University and meet entrepreneurs in this huge business.
In addition, visitors are invited to round off the evening with a booza-inspired painting. thejamjar is offering 20x20cm canvases at a discounted price for visitors to paint their ideal ice cream.
Booza takes place at thejamjar in Al Quoz, Dubai on Monday 22 July from 8-11pm. Admission is free. The Carton, is Dh40 per issue and the 20x20cm canvas is Dh25
